Comment Due December 19: LCFS Pathway Opportunity for Hydrogen Leaders

California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) is now accepting public comments on a new renewable hydrogen pathway application through December 19, 2025.

This is a timely opportunity for H2FCP members to engage in the regulatory process that shapes hydrogen's economic viability in California.

What are LCFS pathways?

The LCFS requires fuel producers in California to reduce the carbon intensity of their products by 20 percent by 2030. Individual fuel production methods must be evaluated and approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Each approved pathway receives a carbon intensity score, which determines the value of LCFS credits, a critical revenue stream that helps hydrogen producers and station operators finance projects.

The current application is for Butterfield RNG 1, a facility converting biogas from dairy manure at Butterfield Dairy in Arizona into pipeline-quality renewable hydrogen for transportation use. This represents the kind of production diversification that strengthens California's hydrogen supply chain.

H2FCP members interested in hydrogen infrastructure development, renewable fuel production, or California's clean transportation goals can submit comments by 5:00 PM PDT on December 19.

Your voice matters in building the hydrogen economy.
