Job Description

 

Hydrogen fueling is changing the world, providing zero emission transportation fuel with a path to 100%

renewable transportation energy. Iwatani is a global leader in industrial gasses and hydrogen fueling

with 28 hydrogen fueling stations (HFS) located throughout Japan and 4 in California, and many more on

the way. The base of operations for California is in Santa Clara with current stations in West Sacramento,

San Ramon, Mountain View and San Juan Capistrano.

 

Iwatani is hiring select individuals for our HFS Technician team and seeking candidates with hands-on

experience maintaining equipment in the following areas:

 

Instrument Air Cryogenic and/or compressed gas

Refrigeration 12 and 24 VDC Electrical Systems

Hydraulic systems AC Electrical Power Systems

Electric motors SCADA and PLC Control Systems

Liquid Hydrogen Point of Sales Systems

Medium Pressure Hydrogen Gas Compressors

 

Job Responsibilities:

· Perform daily on-site station equipment maintenance activities

· Install and troubleshoot various types of high pressure and cryogenic valves, fittings, transmitters,

and related components

· Perform and follow Piping Instrumentation Diagrams, Bill of Materials, Electrical Schematics.

· Perform daily data review to determine operational status and efficiency

· Prioritize preventative and corrective maintenance based on site status, and uptime

· Maintain high-quality work and safety standards to support station readiness and online capabilities

· Perform and complete required operational reporting

· Provide updates on station performance during operations calls

· Perform SCADA and PLC systems to control equipment and perform diagnostics and troubleshooting

remotely as needed.

· Communicate and work closely with the Operations and Engineering Management team regarding

corrective actions and/or projects.

· Coordinate and communicate with sub-contractors and vendors

· Ability to interact with public at hydrogen fueling stations and communicate equipment status

based on company standards

 

 

 

Job Requirements

 

· 1 year related or transferable experience or hands-on equipment maintenance knowledge

· Ability to read, learn and understand Piping Instrumentation Diagrams, Bill of Materials, Electrical

Schematics.

· Proficient understanding of the correct installation, operation and troubleshooting of high-pressure

and cryogenic valves, fittings, transmitters, and related components

· Knowledge of or ability to learn SCADA and PLC systems

· Demonstrated safety leadership and executing safety as a priority

· Proficient using windows operations, email, calendar, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

· Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

· Flexibility to be assigned to one or more station locations

· Ability to travel to assigned HFS daily with a 45-minute or less response time.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended shifts, nights and/or weekends

· Self-motivated and able to respond remotely as needed.

· Capability to work unaccompanied without defined break periods

· Must possess a valid CA Driver’s License

 

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with permit to work and hazardous work permit safety processes

· Hands-on experience in high pressure gas pipe system construction and maintenance

· Experience working around flammable gasses

· Experience and training in lock out tag out work process

· Experience in leak detection

· Experience with high pressure cone and thread fittings and tube bending

· Experience using plant historian, PLC data HMI

· Military Experience and/or Associate or Bachelor’s degree in technical field

· Knowledge of NFPA 2, SAE J2601-1

· Experience in one or more of the following: Military, oil and gas, aerospace, automotive gas stations,

or construction, gas station fueling systems (JP5, gasoline, diesel, CNG, hydrogen) construction or

operations and maintenance

 

Physical and Environmental Demands

Physical demands are customary for this type of position. Always practice good judgment and refer to

the safety guidelines. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, climb squat, as well as

perform daily driving to and from the station. Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with

hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,

distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The

employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

and occasionally move up to 75 pounds. Lifting over 50 pounds may require mechanical and/or second

technician assistance. Moving over 75 pounds will require mechanical means, or additional employee

assistance. Regularly work in varying outdoor climates.
