Location: CO - Golden
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Transportation & Hydrogen Systems Center is seeking a controls engineer with experience in research and development of hydrogen production and delivery infrastructure. This position requires experience in both the theory and application of control system design. The position requires design, build, test, operation, change management, and maintenance of industrial control systems. Systems may include simple conditional logic, alarms, PID loops, feedforward loops, and data acquisition. Controls systems will be implemented in both general purpose and Class I. Div II. hazardous environment hardware.
The position requires demonstrated knowledge with a variety of controls hardware, such as PLCs, National Instruments, embedded controllers (e.g. ARM, Arduino, Broadcom SOC); software, such as Labview, MATLAB, VBA, C, Think-n-Do; and communications protocols such as MODBUS (RTU and TCP/IP), DeviceNet, RS-232/485, CAN, BACNET, ZigBee.
The position requires the ability to work with a team of stakeholders from other disciplines to understand and document controls system requirements, an assume cradle-to-grave responsibility for the control system. Design for safety is paramount, and the successful applicant must continually assess the safety implications of the work.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
General knowledge and application of engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
Training in team, task or project leadership responsibilities. Intermediate abilities and knowledge of practices and techniques. Beginning experience in project management. Good writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
