NorCal Hydrogen Station Field Technician

 

Hydrogen fueling technologies are changing the world by providing a flexible option for achieving zero emissions in the transportation sector. Iwatani is a global leader in the industrial gas industry with a strong presence in hydrogen production, distribution, and fueling. In California, Iwatani Corporation of America (ICA) operates 10 hydrogen fueling stations (HFS) with additional stations in development.

 

ICA is hiring select individuals for our HFS operations and maintenance team with a starting rate of $44.00 per hour. To fill these positions, ICA is seeking candidates with hands-on experience maintaining the equipment and systems listed below:

 

· Cryogenic gas storage

· High pressure compressed gas storage

· Industrial refrigeration

· Hydraulic power systems and compressors

· Instrumentation and control systems

· Oil lubrication systems

· Glycol cooling systems

· Liquid hydrogen

· Fuel dispensing systems

· Point of sales systems

· Hydrogen gas compressors

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

· Perform daily on-site station equipment inspections

· Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities as needed to maintain high reliability of the fueling station

· Install, troubleshoot, and repair various compressed gas system components such as valves, fittings, filters, transmitters, etc.

· Perform daily readings to evaluate the operational health and efficiency of the station equipment

· Identify and recommend equipment improvements to maximum station performance and uptime

· Maintain high-quality work and follow all company safety standards

· Perform required operational reporting including providing verbal updates during daily operations calls

· Respond to customer issues and equipment alarms while onsite

· Troubleshoot equipment issues remotely by reviewing the station HMI and travel to the station when the issue requires onsite repair, including nights and weekends

· Communicate and work closely with operations and engineering management regarding corrective actions and/or projects

· Coordinate with sub-contractors for major equipment repairs (i.e. electrical work or refrigerant handling) and supervise their activities and progress

· Strictly follow energy control procedures (lock-out / tag-out) before performing any hazardous work

· Conduct a job hazard analysis before performing any work and correctly fill out a hazardous work permit

· Record maintenance activities and inspection findings in ICA’s maintenance management system (work orders)

· Ability to interact with public at hydrogen fueling stations and communicate equipment status based on company standards

 

 

Job Requirements

 

· 1 year of related hands-on maintenance experience or applicable education and training that is transferable to this role

· Ability to read, learn, and understand piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment specification sheets, electrical schematics, and technical manuals

· Knowledge of OSHA energy control requirements (lock-out / tag-out)

· Demonstrated safety policy compliance and commitment to choosing safety as the top priority

· Proficient using standard PC systems including Windows, Outlook, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

· Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

· Flexibility to be assigned to one or more station locations

· Ability to travel to assigned HFS daily with a 45-minute or less response time.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended shifts, nights and/or weekends

· Self-motivated and able to respond remotely as needed

· Capability to work unaccompanied without pre-defined break periods while following California’s meal break requirements

· Must possess a valid CA Driver’s License

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

· Experience with permit to work and hazardous work permit safety processes

· Hands-on experience with high pressure gas system operations and maintenance

· Experience working around flammable gases

· Experience in leak detection

· Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (work orders)

· Experience with high pressure cone and thread fittings and tube bending

· Proficient understanding of the correct installation, operation, and troubleshooting of industrial pneumatic valves, solenoid valves, high pressure tubing, temperature and pressure transmitters, pumps, filters, and flow meters

· Experience using an HMI to operate and troubleshoot industrial equipment

· Military Experience and/or Associate or Bachelor’s degree in technical field

· Knowledge of NFPA 2, SAE J2601-1

· Experience in one or more of the following: Military, oil and gas, aerospace, gas station fueling systems (JP5, gasoline, diesel, CNG, hydrogen) construction or operations and maintenance

Physical and Environmental Demands

Physical demands are customary for this type of position. Always practice good judgment and refer to the safety guidelines. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, climb, squat, as well as perform daily driving to and from the station. Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 75 pounds. Lifting over 50 pounds may require mechanical and/or second technician assistance. Moving over 75 pounds will require mechanical means, or additional employee assistance. Regularly work in varying outdoor climates.
