Location: CO - Golden
This position supports hydrogen infrastructure and fuel cell vehicle evaluation projects at the Hydrogen Infrastructure Test and Research Facility (HITRF), the U.S. Department of Energy’s only research hydrogen station, located at NREL in Golden, CO. The job entails a high degree of hands-on activity in a Class I, Division II indoor/outdoor laboratory environment using high pressure fuel gases and demands strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures. Much of the work entails mechanical and electrical fabrication, troubleshooting and operation of hydrogen systems and the test systems to support the same. Required skills include, but are not limited to, the use of typical machine tools such as bandsaws, drill presses, lathes, mills, tubing benders, multimeters, handheld combustable gas detectors, etc. Additional duties may include specifying and ordering parts, creating piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and or layout drawings, electrical schematics, change control packages, and bills of materials. The successful candidate will be able to take general direction, but be self-sufficient and able to complete required tasks on schedule and budget with minimal oversight, taking pride in and responsibility for her/his work. Prior experience with high pressure fuel gas systems and NEC Class I, Div II hazardous locations is preferred. Should be able to lift 50 pounds.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Substantial acquaintance with and understanding of general aspects of the job with a broad understanding of the detailed aspects of the job.
Intermediate to advanced skills in research techniques and practices. Good written, verbal, team, interpersonal and communication skills.
