South Coast AQMD Approves $73 Million for Zero-Emission Trucks and Infrastructure Today, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) Governing Board approved $73.1 million in funding for zero-emission (ZE) trucks and charging and fueling infrastructure using fees collected by warehouse operators under the Warehouse Actions and Investments to Reduce Emissions (WAIRE) Mitigation Program. Incentive projects will be prioritized in the communities where the warehouse fees were collected, reducing emissions in the areas most affected by warehouse-related pollution. This first year of funding will support purchase of new ZE Class 4-8 trucks, ZE yard trucks, and ZE charging or fueling infrastructure. Eligible applicants include warehouse and fleet operators, as well as operators of truck charging and fueling infrastructure serving warehouses. Funding may be combined with other eligible incentive programs, subject to program requirements. The Program Announcement (PA2027-1) for the WAIRE Mitigation Program is now available and provides detailed information on eligibility, program requirements, funding categories, funding amounts, and application procedures. Interested applicants should review the document in advance of the upcoming application period. The online application portal will open for drafting applications on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. through South Coast AQMD’s Grant Management System. Beginning on that date, applicants may create an application, enter project information, upload supplemental documentation, and save their progress prior to submission. Applicants may also contact South Coast AQMD staff with questions regarding the application process or program requirements (waire-incentives@aqmd.gov). Applicants may begin submitting completed applications on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. and will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. The application period will remain open through Tuesday, December 15, 2026 at 12:00 p.m., which is the final deadline for all application submittals.
