NEW HORIZONS FOR HYDROGEN TRADE: TRANSPORTING CLEAN ENERGY OVERSEAS
Publish Date: 3/18/2022

Cross-border trade needs a common language. The absence of harmonised standards and certification systems for assessing and evidencing hydrogen’s sustainability attributes is an unnecessary barrier to investment. By eliminating inconsistent rules and methods to determine hydrogen’s carbon footprint, countries can provide certainty to buyers about hydrogen’s origin, offer more clarity on hydrogen’s contribution to decarbonisation goals, and reduce administrative costs. To illustrate, in Japan, such a reduction of the administrative burden on hydrogen import from Australia could generate up to $2bn of savings in 20307.

Renewable hydrogen costs “expected to plummet” by 2030 – here’s how
Publish Date: 3/19/2022

“Although expensive today, green hydrogen costs are expected to plummet 75 per cent by 2030, as the price of electrolysers rapidly declines. Chinese companies already sell electrolysers at one-quarter the price of their western peers,” BloombergNEF says.

Denmark: Broad billion deal puts turbo on new green fuels
Publish Date: 3/15/2022

With the agreement, Denmark will aim to build an electrolysis capacity of 4 - 6 GW by 2030. With a target of up to 6 GW, Denmark is in the top 3 among the European countries. High ambitions for green fuels are crucial for phasing out fossil energy, reducing climate pressures, supporting green growth and loosening Russia's grip on Europe's energy supply.

The agreement consists of a subsidy scheme of DKK 1.25 billion. in the form of a government tender for hydrogen production, better framework conditions for producers and builds on a number of business promotion measures and pools. This means that the government as a whole has prioritized at least DKK 3 billion. DKK to PtX since 2019.

SoCalGas Begins Assembling Award-Winning H2 Hydrogen Home
Publish Date: 3/2/2022

The H2 Hydrogen Home features a nearly 2,000 square-foot home, solar panels, a battery, an electrolyzer to convert solar energy to hydrogen and a fuel cell to supply electricity for the home. Hydrogen will also be blended up to 20% with natural gas and used in the home's tank-less water heater, clothes dryer, and gas stove, fireplace and BBQ grill. The home will function and feel exactly like a regular home but use reliable and clean energy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, by drawing power from solar panels on sunny days and converting excess energy into clean hydrogen, which can be stored and then converted back into electricity with an on-site hydrogen fuel cell when solar or batteries cannot provide enough energy. The home is also being constructed to LEED Platinum standards.

The materials for the home were delivered this week by clean Class 8 trucks powered by hydrogen and electric power supply systems that only emit water. The featured participants included two Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks, part of a California Air Resources Board (CARB) and California Energy Commission (CEC) project called "NorCal ZERO" to deploy or supply 30 trucks in Northern California by early 2023, as well as two Kenworth T680s equipped with the Toyota fuel cell electric system, which are being demonstrated as part of the CARB Port of Los Angeles "Shore to Store" (S2S) project.
