Four electrolyser gigafactories to be built in France as part of €2.1bn state-aid hydrogen push
Electrolyser makers McPhy, Genvia, Elogen and John Cockerill will build new gigafactories in France after being allocated millions of euros of public funding as part of a €2.1bn ($2.05bn) state-aid push to make the country “the world leader in carbon-free hydrogen”.
The money will be split between ten French hydrogen companies, with a particular focus on electrolysis and equipment for commercial fuel-cell trucks (details below), Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne revealed in a speech this week.

More than 20 countries agree to boost low-emission hydrogen output by 2030
More than 20 countries, led by Japan, have agreed to boost output of low-emission hydrogen to at least 90 million tonnes a year by 2030 from 1 million tonnes now, the Japanese industry ministry said on Monday.
The agreement between countries including the United States, Australia and Germany came at the Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo.

SoCalGas Successfully Tests Microgrid Demonstration Project in Downey
The [H2] Innovation Experience features a nearly 2,000 square-foot home that can use reliable and clean hydrogen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, by drawing power from solar panels on sunny days and converting excess energy into renewable hydrogen, which can be stored and then converted back into electricity, as needed, via an on-site hydrogen fuel cell. Hydrogen will also be blended with natural gas and used in the home's tank-less water heater, clothes dryer, and gas stove, fireplace and BBQ grill. The home is being constructed to LEED Platinum standards.

New Hydrogen Projects Achieve Record Numbers Globally with even Greater Urgency for Final Investment Decisions to Attain Net Zero
-
Hydrogen Council releases its state of the industry report, Hydrogen Insights 2022, on the hydrogen imperative for the global energy transition
-
680 large-scale projects announced globally reflecting investments of US$ 240 billion until 2030, an increase of 50% since November 2021
-
US$22 billion, or 10% of proposed investments, have reached FID, are under construction, or are already operational
-
Real deployment of hydrogen is growing (e.g. 80% increase in installed electrolyzers), and must continue to scale
-
Investment proposals must triple to US$700 billion until 2030 in order to achieve the global 2050 net zero target
-
Both policymakers and industry need to step up to deliver on hydrogen net-zero

Amazon Will Power Trucks With ‘Electrofuel’ Diesel To Curb Carbon Emissions
Though this type of fuel has the same exhaust emissions of conventional diesel when used in an engine, the carbon savings come from how it’s produced: blending clean hydrogen made from renewable energy with waste carbon dioxide that’s been captured from industrial sources. Amazon is sourcing the fuel from Infinium, a Sacramento, California-based startup that the Climate Fund invested in last year.

Siemens and Shell sign MoU to advance low-carbon, highly efficient energy solutions
The MoU stems from this relationship and from working together on several projects since 2010. One of the key milestones advancing green hydrogen is the recently announced construction of Shell’s Holland Hydrogen 1 (HH1) project on the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. With a capacity of 200 megawatts and 60 tons of hydrogen per day, HH1 is planned to be one of the largest green hydrogen production plants in the world and the biggest in Europe. Siemens’ Electrification and Automation business plays an important role in the project’s planning, construction, and execution, as the power distribution and substation automation supplier. It will also be involved in the operation of the plant, which is scheduled to go on-line in 2025, through a servicing contract. The plant will produce hydrogen using electricity generated by wind turbines in the North Sea.
