Researchers have shown for the first time that a cheap catalyst can split water and generate hydrogen gas for hours on end in the harsh environment of a commercial electrolyzer -- a step toward clean, large-scale hydrogen production for fuel, fertilizer and industry.
We examined the 14 countries at the forefront of hydrogen innovation to understand the ways they are already adopting and investing in hydrogen across sectors, and to what extent they are doing so.
Kiwa, the independent testing, inspection and certifying body, has approved BDR Thermea Group’s range of Remeha domestic gas boilers in the Netherlands for up to 20 percent hydrogen admixture. Adding hydrogen from renewable sources into the natural gas supply is expected to reduce carbon emissions by around 8 percent, and so contribute to the energy transition.
By 2025, Orsted will move beyond studies and have electrolyzer projects up and running, including a 30-megawatt project it’s part of in Germany, Nordstrom said. Beyond then, scale and potential is hard to forecast.
The Hydrogen Council, a global initiative of CEOs representing energy, transport, and industry organisations advocating for the accelerated deployment of hydrogen solutions, and the European Investment Bank (EIB), one of the world’s largest providers of climate finance, today signed a landmark agreement to collaborate on the development of innovative schemes to finance hydrogen projects to address climate change.
