Rapid development could push cost of hydrogen below $2/kg in the next 10-20 years, analysts say
The number of announced hydrogen projects suddenly jumped at the height of Covid-19 in 2020, and then almost doubled again in 2021, van Dorsten said. Exponential growth seems set to continue — announcements from the first quarter of 2022 are already equivalent to 25% of the total project pipeline, van Dorsten said.

Hydrogen fuel cells are finally attracting VC interest
The Sea Change was launched into the water outside the California Bay Area in early February. It is the first commercial vessel powered entirely by hydrogen fuel cells—and a major milestone in a decades-long effort to combat the world’s emissions crisis and save companies money in the process.
Symbio, Faurecia and Michelin granted California Energy Commission Award for hydrogen fuel cell truck development; The Symbio H2 Central Valley Express project to demonstrate benefits and reliability of hydrogen mobility for heavy duty transportation
The “Symbio H2 Central Valley Express” project, supported with $2 million from the CEC, will develop and demonstrate a hydrogen fuel cell truck that matches the performance of a 15-liter diesel truck providing a zero-emission solution for demanding regional-haul trucking operations. Starting in the second half of 2023, the truck will run for 12 months on a challenging 400-mile route between the Inland Empire and Northern San Joaquin Valley. Located inside California natural gas investor-owned utility territory, it will utilize existing and future hydrogen infrastructure primarily provided by Air Liquide, Shell and Trillium.

A nearly 450% jump in European gas prices the past year made the green fuel of the future cost-competitive about a decade ahead of schedule, according to BloombergNEF. Now, investment funds are joining governments and utilities in ambitious plans to make hydrogen a viable substitute for fossil fuels in manufacturing, transportation and heating. “It’s kind of a tipping point,” said Phil Caldwell, chief executive officer at Ceres Power Holdings Plc, a U.K.-based hydrogen technology company. “You’re going to see that capital coming in on a big scale now. There’s no turning back.

Helping California build the “Hydrogen Village”; CDFA’s Division of Measurement Standards
Today on the steps of the State Capitol, The California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Division of Measurement Standards (DMS) is taking part in a “Hydrogen Village” showcasing hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. DMS plays a key part in the rollout of hydrogen-fueled vehicle technology. DMS scientists provide the technical expertise and equipment to verify the quality and purity of hydrogen fuel sold in California, and they also verify the accuracy of hydrogen fuel dispensers so that California consumers get exactly what they pay for.
Arrow line passenger train makes test run
The DMUS are a precursor to first-in-the-country zero-emission trains that are expected to be delivered for the Arrow line around 2024.
The zero-emission trains will use hydrogen fuel cell battery technology that emits only water vapor.
