Amazon Will Power Trucks With ‘Electrofuel’ Diesel To Curb Carbon Emissions
Publish Date: 9/20/2022

Though this type of fuel has the same exhaust emissions of conventional diesel when used in an engine, the carbon savings come from how it’s produced: blending clean hydrogen made from renewable energy with waste carbon dioxide that’s been captured from industrial sources. Amazon is sourcing the fuel from Infinium, a Sacramento, California-based startup that the Climate Fund invested in last year.

California Fuel Cell Partnership becomes a national organization: the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Partnership
Publish Date: 9/20/2022

The evolution to a national organization comes at the same time as the Partnership’s initiation of a new national hydrogen mobility strategy. Seeking to accelerate the expansion of national hydrogen production and distribution to support heavy-duty trucking and light-duty rollout across the United States, the strategy will enable the necessary links between ports, key commercial and urban centers, and hydrogen hubs across the United States and ideally, North America. The strategy will leverage the organization’s earlier roadmaps and visions for cars and heavy-duty trucks, as well as national laboratory and state transportation models. In addition, it draws upon California’s policy and investment experience that launched the first retail zero-emission vehicle market in the world and identified achievable steps to a self-sustaining fueling network.

“When the Partnership published its first roadmap outlining how California could launch the world's first fuel cell car market, there were no retail stations or vehicles available. Many questioned if stakeholders could pull off such a feat,” said Bill Elrick, executive director of HFCP. “A decade later, with increasing global recognition of the importance of hydrogen in achieving our zero-emission vehicle and renewable energy objectives, we are more certain that this is a necessary and achievable objective. Hydrogen is no longer a question of ‘if’; rather, it is one of ‘who leads and where first’?”

IVECO and Hyundai present the first fuel cell large van at IAA in Hanover as their partnership develops
Publish Date: 9/19/2022

The working eDAILY FCEV prototype is equipped with Hyundai’s 90 kW hydrogen fuel cell system and 140 kW e-motor. Six tanks offer a combined storage capacity of 12 kg of hydrogen. The GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) 7.2 ton prototype has been tested in Europe, confirming a driving range of 350 km, maximum payload of 3 tons and a refueling time within 15 minutes. While eDAILY BEV, also launched today at the IAA, is best suited for short journeys, eDAILY FCEV will be an ideal option for deliveries where long range with high payload is necessary.

Hailing the net-zero revolution: taxi fleets harness electric and hydrogen power
Publish Date: 9/16/2022

The use of hydrogen-powered taxis is accelerating across Europe. Following trials with BEVs, Hype Taxis in Paris adopted hydrogen power in 2015, as the solution appeared to be well-adapted to the needs of a fleet service. Today, the business is aiming to reach 10,000 zero-emission taxis in Paris, and at least 26 public hydrogen fuelling stations by the end of 2024. “The particularity of FCEV infrastructure is that it offers an acceleration capacity that BEV infrastructure does not have,” explains Mathieu Gardies, Hype’s President and Founder. “In fact, with hydrogen, the more volumes increase, the easier it is to deploy.”

Siemens and Shell sign MoU to advance low-carbon, highly efficient energy solutions
Publish Date: 9/15/2022

The MoU stems from this relationship and from working together on several projects since 2010. One of the key milestones advancing green hydrogen is the recently announced construction of Shell’s Holland Hydrogen 1 (HH1) project on the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. With a capacity of 200 megawatts and 60 tons of hydrogen per day, HH1 is planned to be one of the largest green hydrogen production plants in the world and the biggest in Europe. Siemens’ Electrification and Automation business plays an important role in the project’s planning, construction, and execution, as the power distribution and substation automation supplier. It will also be involved in the operation of the plant, which is scheduled to go on-line in 2025, through a servicing contract. The plant will produce hydrogen using electricity generated by wind turbines in the North Sea.

Hydrogen mobility for heavy-duty: Air Liquide and Faurecia are on the case!
Publish Date: 9/6/2022

In their wake, other intensive mobility sectors are taking a close interest in this energy carrier. In the short term, the railway and off-road vehicle industries (construction sites, mines, etc.) may convert their vehicles to hydrogen. In the longer term, low-carbon liquid hydrogen is a solution for decarbonizing the river and maritime transport sectors, as well as for the entire aviation sector, with the first commercial flights planned for 2035. Public transportation and road freight account for a massive number of vehicles on the road. This represents an opportunity to develop a new liquid hydrogen supply chain, while increasing production volumes for both liquid hydrogen and onboard tanks.
