Importantly, it has been pointed out that FCVs “may yet threaten Tesla” given the fact that Toyota, the world’s second largest automaker, has made consistent and strategic commitments to FCVs in collaboration with Honda. Therefore, major automakers in Japan and the world still find FCVs promising, and it has been argued that FCVs could be Tesla’s “biggest threat” in the future. In terms of recharging, for example, FCVs are superior to EVs because the hydrogen tank can be refilled in less than five minutes at a hydrogen station, whereas it takes about 15 minutes for EVs to be charged from 30 to 50 percent. It takes about an hour for EVs to fully recharge at a charging station.

Hydrogen among public’s most favoured climate technologies, according to Bosch study
A new study by Bosch has found that 41% of people surveyed globally believe hydrogen and fuel cells have the greatest potential to drive sustainability in the future, putting it in joint first with climate engineering.
The Bosch Tech Compass 2023 surveyed people around the world to take the temperature on feelings and public perception towards technology. A headline figure of the report was that 83% of respondents think that future technology will play a key role in combating climate change, up from 76% from the 2022 survey.
Green hydrogen could fuel Gulf of Mexico wind build as 'logical next step' in US offshore: Aegir
But with new, long-term tax credits built in to the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) signed by President Joe Biden in August and the opportunity to apply for funding to establish ‘clean hydrogen’ hubs under the federal H2 Hubs programme, “green hydrogen production is poised to be the main driver and off-take route for offshore wind in the GoM”, said Aegir.

These are the technology trends that will shape our lives in 2023
Cynthia Selin, an associate professor at the School for the Future of Innovation in Society and the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University, believes that in 2023, as we continue to build more capacity for renewables, short-term and long-term energy storage such as batteries and hydrogen will be key.
“Continued investment and favorable policy conditions … mean that clean hydrogen (including hydrogen made using renewable energy) could see sustained growth, the development of necessary infrastructure, and better cost competitiveness,” she says. “In terms of consumer-facing developments in relation to hydrogen, in ’23 the most likely area of attention will be in long-haul trucking.”
SPOILERS: “GLASS ONION’S” KLEAR HYDROGEN FUEL IS CLEARLY THE STUFF OF HOLLYWOOD FICTION
As with nearly all Hollywood films, “Glass Onion’s” top priority is entertainment, and as a result, the film glosses over key facts and leans heavily on myth and hyperbole. Our goal is not to diminish anyone’s enjoyment of the film (which boasts a very strong 93% on Rotten Tomatoes), but rather to clear up any misunderstandings that could arise, particularly as so many individuals are just now beginning to learn about the benefits of clean hydrogen. NREL Model Simplifies Hydrogen Production Analysis
Unlike H2A, however, H2A-Lite offers a high-level techno-economic analysis with only a minimal number of inputs. This might look like entering only a hydrogen production technology of choice and adapting technology default values to specific scales or regional energy prices. H2A-Lite takes these minimal inputs to produce estimates about scale, capital, and operations, as well as greenhouse gas and criteria pollutant emissions characteristics. Price projections for energy and feedstock are based on current data published in the latest Annual Energy Outlook from the Energy Information Administration.

Fukuoka Prefecture and CJPT Enter Partnership to Implement FC Mobility Expansion Initiatives
Specific initiatives under this partnership include working to further expand the use of FC mobility, starting with the adoption of light-duty FC electric trucks by logistics operators this financial year. In addition to increasing the adoption of light-duty FC electric trucks for distributing food, daily necessities, and other goods, the partnership will consider and plan a staged expansion of FC mobility over the medium to long term. This will include use of fuel cell electric vehicles for official public duties such as garbage compactor trucks (trash collection) and ambulances. It will also include the adoption of large FC electric buses for regional transportation and small FC electric buses in regions with smaller populations. Finally, it will include development of infrastructure, etc. designed for heavy-duty FC mobility options, including using long-haul trucks on main arterial routes.

Sufficient, sustainable and circular: Critical materials for scaling up hydrogen
The key conclusion from the study is that the scale of the raw materials impact of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies is small, relative to the scale of both current demand for critical raw materials and the outlook for projected demand in view of the energy transition imperative. This, however, does not mean the scale of critical raw materials use in the hydrogen value chain should be ignored. Adoption of frameworks such as the World Bank Group’s Climate-Smart Mining Framework can help manage the use of critical raw materials in hydrogen and fuel cells deployment, along with providing security of supply of the key critical raw materials needed for hydrogen deployment.
A further positive conclusion from the report is that the essential minerals and metals for clean hydrogen technologies will likely be in sufficient supply, have the potential to be sustainably sourced and can become part of a circular economy, with high percentage recycle recovery rates. These facts, when coupled with international cooperation on critical raw materials supply, are all good news for hydrogen.
The report also highlights that in some cases, such as platinum, the demand for minerals from hydrogen industry may actually relieve stress that could occur with the decline in demand from present uses, supporting the industry and the employment it currently offers, especially in southern Africa.
5 questions answered about ‘clean’ hydrogen
Influential politicians from both parties have taken part in the hub coalitions.
Sen. Joe Manchin, the Democratic chair of the Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee, helped convene a blue hydrogen-oriented coalition in West Virginia. Democratic governors like New York’s Kathy Hochul and California’s Gavin Newsom have championed green hydrogen’s role in their own states’ plans. And Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves, a Republican, asked the Energy Department last year to devote “all available resources” to a $3 billion concept in which solar-derived hydrogen would be stored in an enormous underground salt cavern.
Some of the energy sector’s most powerful players are involved in hub plans, too. They include several of the nation’s biggest power utilities, like Duke Energy Corp. and Dominion Energy Inc. Also involved are the country’s largest natural gas producer, EQT Corp.; officials at the Port of Long Beach and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; steelmakers like Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. and Nucor Corp.; and gray hydrogen producers like Linde PLC.
Most of the coalitions have offered relatively scant details on what they are proposing. But some, like those led by California and New York, have emphasized green hydrogen’s role in their plans. Others, like those from Midwest and Southeast states, have referenced the pink or blue types.
